The LRC at Pembroke Dock Community School is Pembrokeshire's Primary specialist provision for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC). The LRC is well resourced and currently supports over 20 pupils in full-time placements.
Placements to the LRC are allocated by the Local Authority Inclusion service. Schools must submit applications to the Local Authority at least a year in advance. The deadline for September 2017 placements has now passed, with the next entry date into the LRC being September 2018. By this time, Pembrokeshire will have opened a second LRC specific to pupils with ASC and the PDCS resource centre will have a planned reduction of placements to 12 pupils.
Pupils allocated a placement in the LRC will be contacted by the Inclusion Team at PDCS to arrange a meeting with parents. A carefully planned transition timetable will be put in place to meet the specific needs of the pupil, which may include staff from PDCS visiting them in their current setting as well as visits to PDCS before commencing their placement. PDCS value highly the input of feeder schools to the LRC and parental input to ensure a transition that is as smooth as possible for the pupil.
Current LRC pupils felt that a welcome video for new pupils would help pupils transitioning into the LRC. Please find this video at the bottom of the page!
All pupils who attend the LRC in PDCS are supported to access mainstream. We plan, with parents and pupils, to ensure that all mainstream integration is as positive and purposeful as possible.
