Mathematics & Numeracy

PS3: I can use efficient methods for finding the perimeter and area of two-dimensional shapes, understanding how basic formulae are derived.

ACL5: I can explain the ideas and concepts they are learning about

During Maths this week we have been looking at area. We started with independently developing our reasoning skills and then looked at the strategy needed to find the area of shapes. Some of use even challenged ourselves to look at the area of compound shapes.

PS3: I can fluently recall multiplication facts up to at least 10 x 10 and use these to derive related facts.

ACL6: I can use number effectively in different contexts

We enjoy practicing our Times tables using the range of different activities and apps. Today, we used 'TT Rockstars' a firm favourite with all the children in Year 5.

PS3: I can apply my understanding of number value to round and approximate appropriately.

ACL6: I can use number effectively in different contexts

We have been using our Singapore Maths strategies today to develop our understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest 100, 1000 and 10000.

PS3: I can make interpretations and perform calculations involving time.

ACL7: I can understand how to interpret data and apply mathematical concepts

In our Numeracy lesson today we used our knowledge of reading timetables and calculating different times to help the characters from our class novel reach their destinations on time. We had a range of questions to answer, using a range of different strategies.

PS3: I can fluently recall multiplication facts up to at least 10 x 10 and use these to derive related facts.

ACL6: I can use number effectively in different contexts

Always a good start to the day when you can use Kahoot! to develop your understanding of Times Tables.

PS3: I can make interpretations and perform calculations involving time.

ACL2: I am building up a body of knowledge and have the skills to connect and apply that knowledge in different contexts

Reading timetables has been our focus today. We have been using our skills to read a range of timetables.

PS3: I can read analogue and digital clocks accurately and I can make interpretations and perform calculations involving time.

ACL2: I am building up a body of knowledge and have the skills to connect and apply that knowledge in different contexts

Following on from our work on timing events, we have been looking at analogue and digital time. We have been completing practical and written activities.

PS3: I can read analogue and digital clocks accurately and I can make interpretations and perform calculations involving time.

AC6: I can use number effectively in different contexts

We have had so much fun today completing our Maths work. We have been timing our partners completing different events and recording the times correctly. We then had to order the results from fastest to slowest.

PS3: I can use different scales to extract and interpret information from a range of diagrams, tables and graphs, including pie charts with simple fractions and proportions.

AC7: I can understand how to interpret data and apply mathematical concepts

Today, we have been using our knowledge of bar charts and pie charts to interpret sets of data.

PS3: I can represent information by creating a variety of appropriate charts of increasing complexity, including tally charts, frequency tables, bar graphs and line graphs.

AC7: I can understand how to interpret data and apply mathematical concepts

We have been developing our data skills today by drawing a graph using graph paper. We then had to plot two different sets of data.

PS3: I can use different scales to extract and interpret information from a range of diagrams, tables and graphs.

AC7:I can understand how to interpret data and apply mathematical concepts

Using Singapore Maths, we have been working together to interpret data in graphs. Once confident with this we applied our prior knowledge and completed independent activities.

PS3: I can discuss what the problem is about, which operation is needed and what you need to do first in order to solve the problem.

AC7:I can understand mathematical concepts

We have been working hard on our reasoning skills this week, using CUBES. Once we had decided on the correct methods to use to solve the problems, we then used Seesaw to explain our answers.

PS3:I can use my knowledge of number facts and relationships to solve problems in mathematical and real-life contexts.

AC6:I can use number effectively in different contexts

We have used our knowledge of number facts to answer word problems. We have also used inverse operations to check our answers.

PS3: I can pose and answer sensible questions and I have demonstrated an understanding of the importance of collecting relevant data that can be used to answer my questions.

AC8:I can use digital technologies creatively to communicate, find and analyse information.

We have been combining a range of skills today to create databases on different wind farms around the UK. Once complete we analysed the data that we collected.

PS3: I can demonstrate. my understanding of number facts and relationships.

AC6:I can use number effectively in different contexts.

We have been using 'CUBES' to develop our numerical reasoning. We have been working hard to show our workings and explain our answers.

PS3: I can use place value for non-integers.

AC6:I can use number effectively in different contexts.

We have been working with decimals today. Completing a range of activities and choosing our own level of challenge.

PS3: I can fluently recall multiplication facts up to at least 10 x 10 and use these to derive related facts.

AC1: Set themselves high standards and seek and enjoy challenge

We have had fun working on our rapid recall of times tables. There are a range of strategies we use to help us and we enjoy the challenge.
