At Pembroke Dock Community School we promote the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child). We achieved the ROC (Recognition of Commitment which is now known as RRSA Bronze) in November 2015 and we were assessed for our Level 1 (Silver) in November 2016. We achieved our Level 1 (Silver) and we were assessed at the same time for Level 2 (Gold RRSA). We found out from UNICEF in March 2017 that we are officially a Gold Level 2 Rights Respecting School. We are the only Gold RRS in Pembrokeshire and we enjoy sharing good practice with other schools in our area.
The universal rights of children are enshrined in the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child. We are a Rights Respecting School and the UNCRC is at the heart of everything we do at PDCS.
A Rights Respecting School teaches children and young people that they have rights under the UNCRC. Children also learn their responsibility to respect others' rights in all relationships in the community. The ethos created demonstrates to children the inclusiveness of a Rights Respecting School and paves the way to participation in the life of the community. 'This in turn helps them to learn how to formulate, express and listen to opinions, helping to raise achievement.’ (UNICEF)
